Here it is, folks. My daemon according to The Golden Compass Movie Web site:

I couldn't read the script. I was in high suspense, and then I was all, "My daemon's name is Clean??" But no, it's Cleon, a fox. "Modest, a leader, assertive, outgoing, and responsible." I'm supposed to gather feedback for 12 days from you, and/or change my mind about my answers, before my daemon assumes its final form—which is an awesome idea. (As marketing for the movie, and as mirroring of the book!)

(You're supposed to click the button above and answer five questions about me—that will appear right here, in the box! Neat, huh?? They'll ask whether you "agree" that I'm "modest, a leader, assertive, outgoing, and responsible"—which, by the way, are not assertions I made when I took the quiz.)

I might do this again in a few days. I wasn't in doubt of my answers so much as whose point of view they wanted. (I went with my own. Like when they asked if I asked "too many" questions, I was like, "'Too many' according to whom??" which, to most people, probably means yes. But no, I ask as many as I need.)

Damon's mouse daemon Mandara is "modest, shy, assertive, outgoing, and competitive." I love how they lay out these contradictory terms side by side, with no apologies.

I also don't think the associations we have with foxes, mice, etc.—according to our everyday sayings and cliches—are the associations indicated by the test. That's something else I loved about the book.

P.S.
Scratch that—

I went back and redid the test right now. This time, I tried guessing how others see me. (I could feel the answers change significantly.) This is how it came out:

A whippet (What's a whippet??) (Apparently it's a dog) named Photion. "Modest, assertive, outgoing, competitive, and spontaneous." Hm.

Which do you think suits me more?

As different as my answers seemed, the results kind of came out the same. Cleon is better looking.

Hee! I thought it said "Clean" too! I am either a spider or a lion. Whippets are awesome dogs! They are the size in between full-size greyhounds and Italian (or miniature) greyhounds.

I think the spider is awesome for you, especially because his name is Aesop. (I saw that on Irvin's blog!) But Sergius, the lion, is good, too!

Um, did anyone else see what just happened? Cleon changed into a wolf! (A really beautiful one!)

I swear he was a red fox before this.

He's changing already!!

Maybe you guys are answering questions about me, and you're changing him!! WOW!

(Or, maybe it's a glitch on the Web site and he'll change back. Heh.)

answering questions about yourself just for yourself
but you want to complicate it thinking how other
people would answer your questions about/for you ?!?

Foxes are definitely more glamorous, but "I'm sorry to say it, but you're a whippet." (totally insincere apology). But take heart. Whippets are super cool dogs, lots of energy, beautiful, and friendly. And at least you're not a monkey! My Daemon is Persaon, the chimp. And one of my traits is being fickle! Well, I can take solace in the fact that chimpanzees are really smart right? And I like bananas:)

Okay, I just have to say--

I thought it was the coolest thing ever when Irvin got a gibbon (aka a lesser ape) named Athenestia because that says to me he is so highly evolved, even his daemon is practically a person. (And has a beautiful name, to boot!) But now you've gone and got a chimp whose name is practically Person!! Hahahahahahaa

Wow.

I'm just being goofy.

1) Today I see my daemon has been transformed back into a red fox. I'm fascinated by this, and also a little sad. (Bye, beautiful wolf! Thanks to whomever did that; I wonder which quality you disagreed with that resulted in that?)

2) Um, I accidentally changed your awesome chimp daemon just now (into a sleek and svelte creature I couldn't tell was a sand-colored fox or a wolf; perhaps a more elegant species than my fox), by taking your quiz, and I'm sorry (real apology!) and feeling sheepish about that. I hope someone else takes your daemon quiz and changes him back!

(Oh, wait, I just went and looked, and someone has! Good.)

3) This daemon thing is fun, now I know they really change during the 12 days!! (It said they did, but I didn't get it!)

4) Whippet??

There is a saying, and I'm not sure how it goes: "I am not who you think I am; I am not who I think I am. I am only who I think you think I am." Well, that's how I answered the questions that resulted in the whippet.

But does the fact I'm uncomfortable around dogs not count at all?

Oh, I should add that the trait I had trouble with was "fickle," so if you aren't so fond of that one, maybe I don't feel bad. :D

But yes to the really smart, aka practically human. Hahahahaha!

Just think of what the golden monkey indicated, and the possibilities . . .

I strongly agree with your first one.

This is what I came up with...a crow…modest, spontaneous, inquisitive, competitive and social.

Oh, oh! Who just changed him into a tiger? He's been changing back and forth from fox to wolf, but this is the first I've seen the tiger. I'm a tiger!! (Chinese astrology.)

Where did Photion go?

I guess he left when he figured out I had Cleon.

Cleon has taken his final form: a wolf!

(The fact that Photion left is funny. Kinda like in Harry Potter [the moving photos and paintings]. I wonder if it's a computer glitch, but he's already been gone for a couple days!)
